The communities of Ijevan, Martuni and Gavar celebrated the Sustainable Energy Day, which was organized within the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, on June 25-27, 2019.
A series of events have been organized jointly by the CoM East, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and community administrations in the communities, among which was an energy efficiency educational workshop, organized by the UNDP and Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund (R2E2). During the workshop the participants got acquainted with street lighting systems and main approaches of using modern energy efficient technologies in the buildings and with the renewable energy producing technologies.
By joining the Covenant of Mayors East project, the communities assume commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 30 by 2030. It helps municipalities to prepare and implement Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, improve the security of energy supply, and allow them to contribute more actively to climate change mitigation.
