248 decision makers received training on integrating climate change adaptation into regional and community development strategies in the frame of UNDP-GCF NAP project

The results of the "Integrating Climate Change Adaptation into Regional and Community Development Strategies" training series have been summarized and presented to stakeholders during a closing workshop held on the 12th of December, 2022. Overall 248 people participated in 10 training sessions organized in all marzes of the country. These include civil servants of RA Regional administrations, heads of RA communities, members of Councils of Elders, community servants, and representatives of the private sector.


UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan, and Rector of Public Administration Academy of the Republic of Armenia Khachatur Ghazeyan delivered opening remarks, stressing the importance of developing and increasing capacities of decision makers on climate change and adaptation, especially considering their key role in tackling existing and forecasted challenges Armenia faces in the context of climate change.


Training sessions, organized in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) project and implemented by the Public Administration Academy of the Republic of Armenia in cooperation with RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, aim at increasing the awareness of decision-makers in territorial administration, local self-government bodies and the private sector on vulnerabilities, risks and adaptation opportunities in Armenia in the context of climate change, as well as build their capacity for climate change adaptation planning.


During 6-academic-hour courses, participants got acquainted with climate change impacts, existing and predicted risks and vulnerabilities in Armenia; results of climate risks vulnerability assessments  in agriculture, water resources and tourism sectors; climate change adaptation planning at the community level; practices of integrating climate change adaptation in regional (provincial) development strategies; etc.


Apart from organizing the training series, in the frame of the cooperation, works aimed at introduction of climate change and adaptation related subjects in the curriculum of the Public Administration Academy of the Republic of Armenia, as well as training courses of civil and community servants were carried out.


25 representatives of RA Ministry of Environment; RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure; the Public Administration Academy of the Republic of Armenia and UNDP attended the closing workshop.
