The final discussion on the gender-responsive and socially inclusive criteria of Armenia’s 3rd Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) organized under UNDP “Climate Promise Armenia: From Pledge to Impact” project was held on November 11, 2025, bringing together stakeholders from the tourism sector.

Tourism plays a significant role in Armenia’s economy, cultural heritage preservation, and community development, and is one of the sectors with notable participation of women and youth. However, due to its high exposure to climate risks, tourism faces increasing challenges that may deepen existing inequalities if climate solutions are not planned and implemented through an inclusive lens.

The purpose of the workshop was to present and discuss the findings of the study Improving Gender-Sensitive and Socially Inclusive Criteria for NDC 3.0, conducted within the framework of the UNDP project, as well as the proposed sector-specific and cross-sectoral targets developed on its basis. Integration of these targets in climate policies will not only contribute to emission reduction and increased adaptive capacity, but will also support a fairer distribution of opportunities related to capacity development, financing, employment, and participation in decision-making.

Among the proposed directions for the tourism sector were actions aimed at expanding access to green tourism employment and integrating inclusion-focused principles into sector planning and development processes.

Similar consultation meetings have already been held with stakeholders from the energy and agriculture sectors, enabling the collection of feedback across government institutions, civil society, academic and expert communities, international organizations, and private-sector.
