During a workshop held on December 15, preliminary results of ongoing works for the development of a climate change adaptation monitoring and evaluation framework, as well as proposed short-, medium- and long-term adaptation indicators for water and agriculture sectors in Armenia were presented and discussed with the stakeholders. The works are carried out in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan project by the international "Gauss" and "CIVITTA AM" consulting companies.
The workshop aimed at presenting and discussing with stakeholders the climate change adaptation monitoring and evaluation framework, as well as the preliminarily proposed short-, medium- and long-term adaptation indicators for water and agriculture sectors. The latter are intended to support the operationalization of the climate change adaptation monitoring and evaluation system, increasing its efficiency, taking into account national characteristics as well as the proposed monitoring, reporting and verification system.
UNDP Climate change programme coordinator Diana Harutyunyan delivered opening remarks emphasizing the importance of a climate change adaptation monitoring and evaluation system incorporating clear indicators and appropriate evaluation mechanisms in the process of evaluating results and the efficiency of measures included in sectoral and regional adaptation plans and developing long-term adaptation policies.
Development of the climate change adaptation monitoring and evaluation system will be finalized under the “Building Armenia’s National Transparency Framework under Paris Agreement” UNDP-GEF project.
29 representatives of Ministries of Environment; Labour and Social Affairs; and Economy, the Cadastre Committee, "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" State Non-Commercial Organization, consulting companies "Gauss" and "CIVITTA AM" and UNDP attended the workshop and participated online.
