Over 100 teachers received training with the support of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan Project

Within the framework of “Climate Box: Climate Change Education and Awareness Project”, a three-year regional initiative implemented locally by UNDP in Armenia, two more training sessions were organized for teachers of secondary schools and colleges in August-September of 2020. The trainings were organized in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, with the support of the UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Project. Design and printing of climate change adaptation poster included in the Climate Box toolkit was as well assisted by NAP project.


The trainings were aimed at introducing the “Climate Box” educational manual, as an innovative interactive learning toolkit to be used in schools, provide the methodology of using the toolkit, present different options and opportunities for integrating climate change related issues in curricula of different subjects taught at school, as well as facilitate experience sharing. Training sessions were conducted online through ZOOM platform. Over 100 teachers participated in the events.


The RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, UNDP Climate Change Program Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan and Director of the Sochi Eco-Biological Center Elena Malts delivered opening remarks.


“Climate Box: Climate Change Education and Awareness Project” implemented by UNDP in Armenia in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia is part of a regional program implemented in Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus. The project is funded by Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development and co-funded by local UNDP country offices. The project aims at educating and raising the awareness on the climate change among the youth through “Climate Box” interactive learning toolkit. 


"Climate Box" is a collection of educational materials related to the subject of climate change, targeting pupils of 2nd to 12th grades as well as teachers of natural science classes. The purpose of the “Climate Box” is to provide pupils with knowledge about the environment,  impacts of human activity, to develop an environmental culture, to promote nature protection and responsible use of natural resource, and to assist teachers in planning and implementing lessons directly or indirectly related to climate change.
