On March 10, a public hearing on the revision of the Southern Basin Management Plan was held in Kapan. The works were carried out by Geoinfo LLC in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan Project (NAP) within Consulting Services for the Revision of Basin Management Plans for the Southern and Ararat Basins of the Republic of Armenia.
The workshop aimed at introducing the revised and added sections of the Southern Basin Management Plan to the stakeholders, as well as to discussing the results of the works done and the existing problems.
Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan and UNDP-GCF NAP project Team Leader Naira Aslanyan delivered welcoming remarks.
In her welcoming speech, Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan, thanked UNDP-GCF NAP project team for productive work and emphasized the importance of the public hearing in terms of finalizing the Southern Basin Management Plan as well as identifying, preventing and mitigating any possible problems that might occur in the working processes during the next 5 years.
UNDP-GCF NAP project Team Leader Naira Aslanyan stressed the importance of reviewing and updating the Basin Management Plans to promote sustainable water resources management, adding that the water sector is one of six areas vulnerable to climate change targeted by NAP project.
Over 60 stakeholders attended the event and participated online, including representatives of the Ministries of Environment and Territorial administration and infrastructure, Syunik Regional Administration, UNDP, “Veolia water” CJSC, “Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine” CJSC and NGOs.
