On May 26, results of a media contest held within UNDP-GCF Armenia's National Adaptation Plan project were summarized. The contest, organized in the frame of “Reporting on Climate Change by Mass Media” two-day media training, aimed at increasing the interest of media representatives in the field of climate change and particularly climate change adaptation related issues, as well as encourage active and exoteric reporting of these topics.

Welcoming the winners of the competition, Acting Resident Representative of UNDP in Armenia Mihaela Stojkoska emphasized the important role of the media in raising awareness on climate change issues, as well as strengthening countries' adaptation and mitigation capabilities, particularly in the context of existing skepticism about climate change.

“Although climate change impacts and risks in Armenia might sometimes seem less obvious than in coastal countries, Armenia is among countries vulnerable to climate change. Education and awareness-raising on existing climate as well as measures needed to mitigate those are essential in determining and implementing actions addressing climate change challenges. In this context, the role of the media in making science-based information on climate change more understandable and accessible for the general public is particularly important", said Mihaela Stojkoska.

Winners of the contest received certificates and monetary prizes.

The first prize of the competition was awarded to Mariam Tashchyan for her “"Red Line ․ A film about climate change" short film.The second prize was awarded to Ani Yeghiazaryan for her “Will you cure Sevan or  leave it for self-treatment?” article. The winner of the third prize was the youngest contestant Oksanna Arakelyan, with her “If illegal logging continues at this rate, the condition of the forest will be catastrophic” article.

“Reporting on Climate Change by Mass Media”, a media training was organized on December 22-23, 2020 for journalists and media content specialists covering environmental, public, economic and other subjects. The event was organized by ADWISE Consulting in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan project.
