On January 7, the first meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordinating Council on implementation of requirements and provisions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement took place. One of the reasons to form a new Inter-Agency Coordination Council is the ratification of the Paris Agreement by the Republic of Armenia in 2017, which further clarified the procedures for fulfilling the obligations of the Parties to the Convention.
During the meeting Diana Harutyunyan, Climate Change Program Coordinator of UNDP Armenia, presented the country's priorities for limiting and adapting greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris Agreement, vulnerability of Armenia’s natural resources and energy sector as well as the key outcomes of COP26 UN Climate Change Conference. Armenia joined two initiatives: pledge to cut methane emissions by at least 30 by 2030 and promise to end and reverse deforestation, which were signed by more than 100 countries.
More information about the meeting is available on the official website and Facebook page of the Ministry of Environment, and on the UNDP Facebook page.
