UNFCC-CGE Regional Workshop on Tracking Progress of Nationally Determined Contributions under the Enhanced Transparency Framework

On October 19-21 Regional hands-on training workshop on the tracking progress of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) for Asia, Eastern Europe and Western Europe and Others Region was held in Yerevan.  The topics discussed included mitigation assessment, tracking progress of implementation and achievement of NDCs through use of indicators, and support needed and received in relation to tracking progress of NDCs. The workshop aimed at enhancing the technical capacity of experts from developing country Parties in establishing or building upon the understanding and application of the reporting provisions relevant for the tracking of progress of NDCs, including identifying indicators.


Welcoming remarks were delivered by Hakob Simidyan, Minister of Environment. The Minister referred to Armenia’s climate agenda, as well as the efforts of the country to serve that agenda. Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative to Armenia, welcomed the guests and workshop participants, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing climate change challenges. Opening remarks were delivered by Gayane Gabrielyan, Deputy Minister of Environment, as well as Michael Vartanyan, member of Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) under UNFCCC, and Tugba Icmeli, Team Lead of the UNFCCC Transparency Division.


During the three-day event ETF arrangements, as well as Biennial Transparency Report structure and the common tabular formats for reporting information on tracking progress of NDCs were presented. Moreover, participants have shared experiences on establishing institutional arrangements to support the implementation of Monitoring, Reporting and Verification and the ETF. Discussions and group works on the related topics were held.


The workshop was attended by international experts, and representatives of the Government of Armenia (Ministry of Environment, Statistical Committee, Ministry of Economy, Forest Committee, Yerevan Municipality) as well as online participants.


The workshop was organized by CGE with the assistance of the UNFCCC secretariat and hosted by the Government of Armenia and the UNDP country office.
