On July 18-19, 2019, the training workshop took place in Aghveran to enhance gender dimension of the climate change area in the frames of UNDP-GCF “National Adaptation Plan to Advance Medium and Long-Term Adaptation Planning in Armenia” and “De-Risking and Scaling up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” Projects.
The training objective was to increase awareness on methodologies and tools for gender analysis and planning in climate change sensitive sectors to be applied by project experts, partner ministries, local administrations and NGOs. Around 40 representatives of various ministries and non-governmental organizations attended the workshop. Ms. Diana Harutyunyan, UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator, opened the workshop by welcoming the participants. Ms. Zhanna Andreasyan, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, presented the urgent issues of gender equality in Armenia and the key priorities of gender strategy developed by the government for 2019-2023. Two Green Climate Fund financed projects on national adaptation planning and energy efficiency highlighted the projects activities aimed at ensuring of UNDP requirements on gender mainstreaming. Ms. Barbora Galvankova, the UNDP Gender Equality Programme Specialist, introduced the international framework of gender equality, particularly focusing on gender equality in climate change area.
Ms. Valentina Bodrug, the UNDP International Gender Advisor and the Leading Trainer of the workshop-training conducted the two-day training course on notions of gender equality, gender mainstreaming, gender transformative approach, international standards and normative frameworks on gender equality, methodologies and tools for gender analysis and planning in climate change sensitive sectors, such as energy, agriculture, water resources and health. The series of presentations were followed by practical exercises in the working groups where participants were tasked to localize the submitted theoretical knowledge and international practices into the Armenian contexts of discussed issues.
