On June 16 a training-workshop on “Strategic Communication Plan for National Adaptation Planning Processes” was held in Yerevan.  The event was organized in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan project, aiming to present and discuss with the stakeholders National Adaptation Plan adopted by the RA Government decree N 749-L, dated May 13, 2021, its principles, processes, roles and responsibilities of stakeholders as well as the draft “Strategic communication plan for national communication and outreach on climate change adaptation awareness and the NAP process” developed in the frame of UNDP-GCF project.

RA Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan and UNDP Climate Change Program Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan delivered a welcoming speech at the event, stressing the importance of public awareness of climate change and adaptation at the national, regional and local levels, particularly in the context of ensuring efficiency of the NAP process in general and the implementation of prioritized adaptation measures in particular.

"We have an important mission to make information accessible to the wide public. It is very good that we are cooperating with various departments and governmental bodies, it is good that we are trying to work with the regional structures at local level, but we must also be able to work competently with the public, because the dominant role in the chain of processes belongs to them, we as policy-making bodies, we must be able to make the information easily accessible for the target groups," said Gayane Gabrielyan, once again emphasizing the importance of active participation of those present in the discussions.

"Climate change is a reality; we are already experiencing its negative effects both in the world and in Armenia. In this context, the steady, accessible flow of information becomes even more essential, as it is very important to be aware of the risks and vulnerabilities caused by climate change, to be able to overcome or prevent them, "said Diana Harutyunyan in her welcoming speech.
