In the framework of “Building Armenia’s National Transparency Framework under Paris Agreement,” the UNDP-GEF project, a one-day workshop entitled “The problems of accessibility and quality assurance of the statistical data for climate change national report”, took place on August 11, 2022, in Vagharshapat, Armenia. The overarching goal of the event was to organise a discussion among stakeholders and expert communities on necessary indicators for the fulfilment of Armenia’s obligation to submit national reports under the UN Climate Change Convention, as well as to compile a list of indicators that need to be improved, and outline the future framework of work to be conducted in that direction. It is worth mentioning that the Deputy Minister of Environment Ms․ Gayane Gabrielyan delivered opening remarks and stressed the importance of climate change statistics for tracking the climate agenda impact.

In March 2022, the UN Statistical Commission presented the complete list of climate change statistics and indicators (which comprises 158 indicators) created by the statistical department. During the workshop, group works and discussions were held. As a result, the participants underlined the indicators that need to be improved and discussed the problematic indicators to complete the list of Climate Change indicators applicable to Armenia.

The workshop was attended by around 40 representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, the Statistics Committee, “The Hydrometeriology and Monitoring Center” SNCO, representatives of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, as well as experts on climate change, health, gender issues, researchers and UNDP Climate Change project representatives.
