A key component of the “Strengthen Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low-Emission Development” project, funded by “Strengthen Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low-Emission Development” (Sida) and implemented by UNDP, is its focus on education.
To create green jobs, vocational training support was provided to Alaverdi State Vocational College, where trained specialists conducted two short-term training programs on "Renewable Energy and Energy-Efficient Technologies" in 2023. Since September 2024, this subject is offered as a long-term program at the College.
Artyom Kirakosyan, 35, was one of seven teachers trained for the new course on “Renewable Energy and Energy-Efficient Technologies” at Alaverdi State Vocational College. He now teaches 22 students, who had the opportunity to apply their new skills while installing solar heating and photovoltaic demonstration systems at the college.
This growing and promising sector has created new green job opportunities for Artyom and the young graduates of the course. He has already received short-term contracts from companies involved in solar system installations in the northern region of Armenia. An auto electrician by profession, Artyom believes his skills will also be in demand as the number of electric vehicles increases in his city.
