On 11 May, a training course was held for Alaverdi community energy sector officials within the framework of the “Strengthened Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low Emission Development” UNDP-Sida project in Lori Marz.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Alaverdi community hall, administrative heads of settlements of the enlarged community, directors of State Non-Commercial Organizations, representatives of UNDP in Armenia office.

Aregnazan Martirosyan, the Head of the UNDP-Sida project team, presented the main directions and goals of the activities planned under the “Strengthened Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low Emission Development” UNDP-Sida project.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to establish an Energy Management System in Alaverdi community. 64 public facilities under the municipal authority will have a new energy management system, solar photovoltaic plants and water heaters will be installed, as a result of which it is expected to reduce energy consumption by 30%.

During the training, issues related to the formation of a working group coordinating energy management, the work related to system introduction and coordination, criteria for choosing appropriate buildings in terms of energy saving for modernization were discussed.

Vahagn Atayan, the Expert of UNDP-Sida project, presented to the participants of the training the details on the establishment and coordination of the Energy Management System in Alaverdi community, the scope of responsibilities of the energy sector officials, as well as filling out the energy consumption data and technical inventory forms (object card) of the buildings and municipal subsystems under financing from the municipal budget and 

UNDP-Sida project Expert Andre Ohanyan presented the main directions of energy consumption in the buildings and taking energy saving measures.

UNDP Expert Artem Kharazyan spoke about the key commitments of the "Covenant of Mayors" initiative and the member communities, perspectives of sustainable energy development, the development process and the procedure of collecting baseline data.

At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed the issues of joint work organization in future.
