On September 19, the city of Alaverdi hosted the “Green Lori” conference, organized under the UNDP project “Strengthening Community Resilience Through Energy Efficiency and Low-Emission Development”, funded by the Government of Sweden (Sida). The event was held in cooperation with the “Community Consolidation and Support Center” NGO, Alaverdi State Vocational School, and the Alaverdi Youth Council.
The conference took place as part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week initiative and was dedicated to the topic of energy security for the future. Discussions highlighted the role of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and international cooperation in advancing a green transition.
“This initiative is not only a wonderful platform for the youth of our region to discuss, learn, and voice the challenges of climate and energy security, but also a real opportunity to become part of the solutions. We value not only the initiatives carried out at the community level, but also such educational and awareness-raising programs that help shape a responsible and conscious generation”, - said Head of Alaverdi community Davit Ghumashyan.
A key highlight of the event was the final stage of the “Green Lori” youth competition. The contest took place in August, engaging youth from different settlements of Lori region. presenting global and local trends of climate change, its impacts and mitigation measures, as well as initiatives currently being implemented in Lori and Alaverdi.

In addition, UNDP experts and field specialists introduced young participants to global and national climate change trends and impacts, mitigation measures, as well as climate initiatives and ongoing programs in the Lori region and the Alaverdi community.
The event brought together around 50 young people from different settlements of Lori region.
