On 6 July, 2023, the representatives of the "Strengthened Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low Emission Development" project, visited Alaverdi. The delegation consisted of Ms. Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia; Klas Waldenström, Head of Development Cooperation and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden to Armenia; and Ashot Giloyan, Head of Territorial Administration Policy Department, Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, and other guests. The project is funded by the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Alaverdi Municipality.

During their visit to UNDP-Sida project office in Alaverdi, the guests discussed the ongoing activities of the project with the mayor of Alaverdi. Subsequently, they visited one of the two fully thermally insulated multi-residential buildings (1/25) in  Sarahart district, which is part of the State Subvention Program.

In Alaverdi, two high-rise panel buildings have been fully thermo- insulated, along with the partial thermo-insulation of seven multi-apartment buildings in 2022-2023, facilitated by the  State Subvention Program and UNDP energy efficiency and low emission development projects.

Under the same project, the comprehensive energy-efficient reconstruction of Alaverdi Kindergarten No. 6 and the Children's Inclusive Service Center will be initiated soon, along with the partial thermal insulation of another ten 10 multi-apartment buildings in Alaverdi as part of the State Subvention Program.

The plans for Alaverdi Kindergarten No. 6 and Children's Inclusive Service Center include complete thermal renovation, such as insulation of external walls and roofs, replacement of doors and windows, installation of LED lighting, a new, efficient heating system, interior renovation, structural strengthening, seismic improvement, and placement of a roof with a PV system.

Additionally, the delegation visited Alaverdi State Vocational School, which will offer a short-term study program on "Energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies" starting from the current academic year. The school's laboratory will also be equipped with appropriate equipment and educational devices.

Concluding the visit, an extended annual meeting of the project board was held at Alaverdi community hall. Arega Martirosyan, the UNDP-Sida Project Team leader, and Project Expert Andre Ohanyan presented the project's results and the upcoming actions. Marianna Pepanyan, President of "HEBA" NGO, shared the outcomes of a social study conducted with residents of 19 multi-apartment buildings included in the State Subvention Program.

One of the project's expected outcomes is the availability of green and affordable energy sources. Plans are underway to construct a community solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 500 kW, with a designated land already selected in the Mghart settlement.

The primary objectives of the project include fostering the creation of green jobs, reducing energy poverty, and establishing public-private partnerships.
