This year’s UNECE Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Climate Change-Related Statistics took place from August 28-30. The events have been organized annually, since 2014. Expert Forums provide a link between producers and users of climate information and serve as a platform for collaboration, sharing ideas and experience, discussing concepts, methodologies and identifying areas for the development of practical guidance.
This year the Forum focused on discussing the roles of national statistical offices in informing the public on the developments in the context of climate change, provision of data to policymakers, improving dissemination and communication strategy for climate change-related statistics and indicators, supporting governmental stakeholders in fulfilling reporting requirements under Paris Agreement both for mitigation and adaptation actions, etc.
Representatives of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia - Nelli Baghdasaryan, a member of the State Council of Statistics of the Republic of Armenia, and Naira Mandalyan, a senior specialist at the Department of Environmental Statistics - as well as UNDP Climate Change Programme Expert on Gender and Social Vulnerability Issues Astghik Mirzakhanyan participated in the event presenting main issues of availability and reliability of climate change related statistics in Armenia, as well as required gender and social vulnerability data to support a just transition in the country. In addition to delivering presentations, Nelli Baghdasaryan and Astghik Mirzakhanyan also submitted thematic articles for the discussion by the forum participants.
