“Assessment of Social and Gender Benefits of Energy Efficient Retrofitting of Kindergartens in Yerevan, Armenia” case study’s main objective of this case study was to assess the impact of the “De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” UNDP-GEF Project on beneficiaries of municipal kindergartens in Yerevan, which were reconstructed, renovated and thermally insulated by technical and financial support of the Project. The need for the study is determined by the Project's Gender Action Plan (the GAP), where monitoring of improvements through data collection is specified as an action for evaluating the GAP Output 4. In particular, the beneficiaries’ sex-disaggregated indicators and qualitative data on improved comfortability, attendance and health of children are set up to report the social and gender benefits of the Project.
The study was conducted in those renovated kindergartens which have been operated in the winter season of 2022-2023. The required data and information were collected through site visits and by application of three methods of survey: (i) deep-interviews; (ii) focus-group discussions; and (iii) opinion polls.
