Ruzanna and her family were displaced from Artsakh in 2020 and settled in the village of Odzun, in Armenia’s Lori region. Rebuilding life in a new community was daunting — they faced social, economic, and logistical challenges that tested their patience and determination. Yet, Ruzanna’s perseverance and initiative became the cornerstone of her family’s recovery.

In 2024, Ruzanna became one of the beneficiaries of UNDP "Strengthening Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low Emission Development" project. As part of the initiative, she received a 2 kW solar power station for her home. The installation not only reduced her household electricity expenses but also freed up resources that she could reinvest in her small business.
Already passionate about beekeeping, Ruzanna used the savings to expand her apiary. What began as a modest venture with just two hives has now grown into a thriving operation of twenty-five hives, generating a reliable source of income for her family and contributing to local biodiversity.
Ruzanna’s story exemplifies how targeted support in energy efficiency, coupled with personal dedication, can empower displaced families to regain stability and build sustainable livelihoods. Her journey highlights UNDP’s commitment through the Climate Promise to support communities in adapting to climate change, reducing emissions, and fostering resilient, low-carbon development — proving that even in the face of adversity, sustainable solutions can create lasting impact.
“Strengthening Community Resilience through Energy Efficiency and Low-Emission Development” project is implemented by UNDO and funded by the Government of Sweden (Sida) in cooperation and co-financing with the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Alaverdi Municipality.
