A workshop titled “Leveraging Climate Finance for Climate-Resilient Transport and Irrigation Infrastructure” was held on September 18. The event was jointly organized by UNDP and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia under the UNDP project “Development of Technical Guides on Risk Assessment for the Elaboration of Management Approaches for Responding to Loss and Damage.”
The main objective of the workshop was to present and discuss two project concepts aimed at enhancing the resilience of Armenia’s transport and irrigation infrastructure to the impacts of climate change. Participants also explored potential financing sources for the proposed projects, opportunities to engage international partners, and the steps needed to move the concepts from design to implementation.
Opening remarks were delivered by Konstantin Sokulsky, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Armenia, and Nona Budoyan, Head of the Climate Policy Department at the Ministry of Environment. Both emphasized the urgent need to strengthen climate resilience and the importance of mobilizing climate finance, particularly as Armenia experiences increasingly frequent and severe meteorological events in recent years.
Around 50 representatives attended the workshop in person and online, including officials from the Ministries of Environment, Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs, the Water Committee, Armhydromet SNCO, the Environmental Project Implementation Unit State Agency, as well as representatives from the Asian Development Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and UNDP.
